Oh gin and tonic. All those years of my life I went without this refreshing drink. Although there were margaritas and other delicious tipples to fill in the gap.
Apparently gin and tonic is the least hangover-inducing way to consume alcohol. I can’t tell if that is a good or bad fact to know.
I’ve become quite interested in food pairing of late – matching foods based on the volatile aroma compounds they share, rather than convention, national cuisine or geography. Gin, with its complex mix of botanicals and other natural flavours, shares flavour compounds with fresh grapefruit and pink peppercorns.
One of the best (and worst) things about this gin cocktail is how quickly and easily it comes together. There’s no crushing, muddling, squeezing or fiddling around. Just a little slicing, pouring and sprinkling.
And it looks super cool.
